On May 26, 2026, voters in Texas’s newly redrawn 35th Congressional District will decide a Democratic primary runoff between Johnny Garcia, a moderate sheriff’s deputy backed by the DCCC, and Maureen Galindo, a self-described sex therapist and astrologer whose campaign has drawn national condemnation for a series of openly unhinged statements.
The story most outlets are running is the obvious one: a Democratic candidate said something inexcusable. Galindo pledged to turn the Karnes ICE Detention Center into “a prison for American Zionists and former ICE officers.” She added that the facility would double as “a castration processing center for pedophiles, which will probably be most of the Zionists.”
According to FEC filings reviewed by The Texas Tribune, Punchbowl News, CNN, and Jewish Insider, nearly every dollar of outside money supporting Maureen Galindo has come from a single source: a previously unknown super PAC called Lead Left PAC, which registered with the Federal Election Commission on May 6, 2026, three weeks before the runoff.
In that three-week window, Lead Left has spent close to $600,000 boosting Galindo and attacking Garcia. Most of that money has gone to broadcast and cable ads, mailers, and printing costs. As of this writing, the PAC has not disclosed a single donor, and it did not respond to questions from CNN, the Texas Tribune, Jewish Insider, or Punchbowl News about who is behind it.
What it did leave behind was a forensic breadcrumb. The metadata on Lead Left PAC’s website initially included a link to WinRed, the primary online fundraising platform used by Republican campaigns and committees. House Democratic leaders, including Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries and DCCC Chair Suzan DelBene, have cited that link in calling on Republican leadership to “immediately cease propping up this antisemitic candidacy.”
Lead Left PAC has also spent money in other Democratic primaries across the country, in each case boosting the candidate that national Democrats view as the weaker general election threat. That is the strategy.
