On May 24, 2026, Senator Lindsey Graham (R-SC) posted on X that Saudi Arabia and other Arab and Muslim states should join the Abraham Accords as part of any deal ending the US-Israel war with Iran. Graham warned that refusal “would have severe repercussions for our future relationships,” called the prospect “one of the most consequential in the history of the Middle East” if accepted, and added that rejection “would be seen by history as a major miscalculation.”
The post followed a May 23 call by President Donald Trump to the heads of state of Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Pakistan, Turkey, Egypt, Jordan, and Bahrain, in which Trump reportedly pressed the same demand. Trump separately posted on Truth Social that countries including Saudi Arabia and Pakistan would recognize Israel once the Iran war ended, a claim Graham then publicly amplified.
