On May 24, 2026, President Trump announced that a US-Iran agreement to end the war had been "largely negotiated" and would be announced "shortly." Within hours, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu told Trump in a phone call that Israel "will remain free to act against threats in all arenas, including Lebanon." Iran has not confirmed the deal, and Iranian state media has contradicted parts of Trump's announcement.
