ike Rogers spent the run-up to the 25th anniversary of September 11 using the attacks as a weapon against his opponent, telling the Republican convention that Abdul El-Sayed wants to represent Palestine while he wants to represent Michigan, and claiming the day after the primary that El-Sayed believes America deserved 9/11. In this video, I walk through what happened when El-Sayed answered. He pointed out that Rogers voted twice to deny health care to 9/11 first responders and justified it to a responder who had part of his foot amputated by calling it a New York problem, a post that drew more than two million views. Rogers fired back that El-Sayed had some nerve and demanded he disavow a Twitch streamer. Then the Detroit Metro Times published a review of congressional records finding that Rogers didn't oppose responder health care twice, he did it nine times between 2003 and 2010: two votes against the James Zadroga 9/11 Health and Compensation Act, a vote to block it in subcommittee, a vote against letting it reach the floor, support for a maneuver colleagues warned would kill it outright, and backing for an amendment that would have terminated the health program if it added to the national debt.
