An AI researcher named Jacob Coxon resigned from Anthropic this week with a warning that has now been read more than 26 million times: after three years doing pretraining research at OpenAI and then Anthropic, he says neither company is acting responsibly, that they are "racing straight to self-improving superintelligence and gambling with our lives," and that the people building this technology earnestly believe it could kill us all by the end of the decade. In this video, I read his full thread, and then the part that should worry you more: Evan Hubinger, Anthropic's alignment science lead, publicly agreeing with him, putting the chance of AI killing all humans above 10% within the decade, and admitting the company has no plan yet to solve alignment for superintelligence.
