The New York Times finally came for AIPAC. The Daily's new episode, "Israel, AIPAC and Difficult Questions for Democrats," spends 40 minutes with NYT Magazine's Jonathan Mahler dissecting the record money AIPAC has poured into this year's elections, and AIPAC lost it, posting a furious thread accusing the Times of inaccuracies, omissions, and mischaracterizations. In this video, I go through that thread claim by claim. AIPAC objects to being called fully partisan, so I play the clip of Democrat Jared Moskowitz saying JD Vance is too moderate for him and that he affiliates with people like Lindsey Graham, and I show AIPAC's leadership posing with Netanyahu and his wife in DC this week. I break down Debbie Wasserman Schultz pushing legislation over Iranian drones in Lebanon, a concern for Israel, not for America. AIPAC defends opposing the JCPOA by citing a bipartisan majority of Congress, which means very little when my VoteLog analysis of their own lobbying disclosure shows Iran legislation making up as much as three quarters of their portfolio. Then comes the part they really won't like: AIPAC claims it never called for unconditional aid, so I pull up AIPAC's own tweet demanding the Senate reject Bernie Sanders's effort to condition aid and telling Congress to reject any attempt to block or condition weapons for Israel. They are saying the exact thing they deny ever saying. I also get into what even the Times won't touch: the documented fight between AIPAC's predecessor, the American Zionist Council, and the Kennedy administration's Justice Department, all sitting in the archives. And I close with why AIPAC is really flailing: it says it won't be deterred while burning through more than $50 million in Michigan, where the new Emerson poll has Abdul El-Sayed beating its candidate 54 to 39.

In this video, I break down why that sequencing matters: either Riyadh quietly agreed to normalization up front, or Trump is rewriting the terms of a finished deal under Israeli pressure, and I make the case it's the latter. I go through Karoline Leavitt's briefing, where she confirms the deal is contingent on joining the Abraham Accords and admits Trump hadn't spoken to Mohammed bin Salman since posting the new condition. Then I lay out why Saudi Arabia is unlikely to take the bait: it built a 142-country coalition with France around a credible path to a Palestinian state, it already has a mutual defense pact with nuclear-armed Pakistan, and its smartest play is to wait out the coming Israeli elections rather than hand Netanyahu a diplomatic prize now. I also get into the irony nobody in the briefing room touched: Trump is conceding that civilian nuclear programs are acceptable for allies after going to war over one Iran never weaponized. And I close with the bigger picture: normalization with every Arab state except the Palestinians doesn't end the conflict, it locks in apartheid, and apartheid doesn't last.

In this video, I break down why she might actually win it. The math is brutal and simple: she's the only white candidate in the race, but the four challengers splitting the vote against her (Elijah Manley, Luther Campbell, former Rep. Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick, and Broward County Mayor Dale Holness) could fracture the opposition enough to let her slip through on a plurality. I walk through the numbers and make the case that Elijah Manley, a 27-year-old progressive organizer, would most likely beat Wasserman Schultz in a straight head-to-head, which is exactly why some are pushing the Black candidates in the field to coalesce behind one name before August 18. If they don't, the crowded field becomes her single biggest advantage.

In this video, I break down the vote, AIPAC's furious statement, and the archival clips of James Traficant and Pat Buchanan, two men who said the same thing decades ago and paid the price for it. Then I get into what I found in AIPAC's newest lobbying disclosure, filed July 14: the group is lobbying on H.R. 425, a bill to repeal the Corporate Transparency Act, the anti-money laundering law that exposes the true owners of shell companies. That includes groups like Pro-Choice Majority Action, the AIPAC-linked PAC that Drop Site News exposed after it funneled $1.2 million to Diana DeGette. I also walk through VoteLog's new amendment tracker and explain why not a single Republican joined Massie: they all watched what AIPAC did to him in Kentucky.

It is the most direct and forceful statement to date from a sitting US senator on the need to use American leverage against Israel, and it landed at the moment the Democratic Party is still avoiding any honest reckoning with its 2024 loss.

Van Hollen, a Senate Foreign Relations Committee member, stated that “while Republicans’ approach to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict has failed, so has ours,” and that the Democratic Party has provided Israel with “reflexive and unconditional support.” He went further, describing the apartheid in the occupied West Bank, ethnic cleansing under settler expansion, and the genocide in Gaza.

The countries named were Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Pakistan, Turkey, Egypt, Jordan, and Bahrain. Trump framed the demand as “mandatory,” writing that countries refusing to sign would be excluded from any Iran deal because it would show “bad intention.”

Within hours, Saudi Arabia and Pakistan flatly rejected the demand. Both governments restated a position they have held publicly for years: no normalization with Israel without a credible, irreversible path to an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital.

The Saudi Position Has Not Moved

Saudi Arabia’s response was consistent with statements going back more than two decades. The Saudi Foreign Ministry has repeatedly affirmed that the kingdom’s position on Palestinian statehood is “firm and unwavering” and “non-negotiable.” Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman reiterated the position publicly in November 2024 at the Arab-Islamic Summit in Riyadh, again in February 2025 in response to Trump’s Gaza takeover proposal, and again in November 2025 during an Oval Office meeting with Trump that, according to Axios, became visibly tense.

Over the past year, Riyadh has actively built a 142-country diplomatic coalition, co-led with France, dedicated to advancing recognition of a Palestinian state. That coalition includes the majority of UN member states and represents one of the largest diplomatic blocs Saudi Arabia has assembled on any issue.

Pakistan’s Position Was Even More Direct

Pakistan’s rejection came with sharper edges. Pakistani officials pointed out that Israel is not listed as a recognized country on Pakistani passports, which state explicitly that the passport is valid for all countries of the world except Israel.

Just weeks earlier, Pakistan’s Defense Minister Khawaja Asif had posted publicly that Israel is “a cancer to the world that has to be abolished,” describing the country as a project of European Jewish settlers. He later deleted the post, but the underlying position of the Pakistani government on normalization with Israel has not changed in decades. Pakistan does not recognize Israel and has stated repeatedly that recognition is conditional on the establishment of a Palestinian state.

The post followed a May 23 call by President Donald Trump to the heads of state of Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Pakistan, Turkey, Egypt, Jordan, and Bahrain, in which Trump reportedly pressed the same demand. Trump separately posted on Truth Social that countries including Saudi Arabia and Pakistan would recognize Israel once the Iran war ended, a claim Graham then publicly amplified.

Asked directly if the label still applied to her, the first-term Democratic senator answered: "I believe in a Jewish State of Israel, yes. And that to me isn't a radical thing to say and I always have." Slotkin, a former CIA analyst and Defense Department official, represents the state with the largest Arab and Muslim American population in the country. She is also widely floated as a 2028 Democratic presidential contender.

The exchange happened during a one-on-one stage interview. The moderator pressed Slotkin on whether the term still fit her politically. Slotkin's response went further than a yes. "I can say that in the same breath that I criticize the military policy of Bibi Netanyahu," she said. She acknowledged the political climate had shifted, adding that it "used to be easier" to say she considered herself a Zionist publicly.

Michigan is home to over 300,000 Arab Americans and the highest concentration of Muslim American voters in any swing state. Slotkin won the seat in 2024 by less than 20,000 votes after Dearborn and Hamtramck broke for third-party candidates in protest of the Biden administration's support for Israel's war in Gaza. Slotkin's continued public alignment with Zionism is a deliberate choice. It is also one she will be asked to defend if she enters the 2028 Democratic primary, where Michigan delegates and donors are central to the path.

Slotkin is one of a small number of sitting Democratic senators willing to use the word "Zionist" to describe themselves on the record. Within the Democratic coalition, even pro-Israel senators have largely shifted to language like "supporter of Israel's right to exist." Slotkin's choice to retain the older term, in front of a Politico audience, in the middle of an active war, is the news.

“Just Quit and Leave”: Scott’s Iran War Solution

Horton’s position on the Iran war is straightforward. The United States should declare victory, give Trump a parade and a gold medal, and leave the region permanently. “The entire bluff of America’s military predominance in the Middle East has already been called as of six to eight weeks ago,” Horton said. “We’re living in the future now.”

In Horton’s analysis, Iran is now the dominant force in the region, in significant part because the George W. Bush administration installed an Iran-friendly government in Iraq in 2003. There is no military solution short of nuclear weapons that would reverse this, and the American public has no interest in continuing to die for dominance over the Persian Gulf. The political class refuses to acknowledge the setback, and that refusal is what keeps the United States stuck.

How Netanyahu Manipulates Trump

Asked about Netanyahu’s 60 Minutes appearance, where the Israeli prime minister told CBS the Iran war is not over, Horton offered a candid theory: Trump is being flattered into war.

“There’s a national intelligence estimate in Israel that just says flatter him,” Horton said. The pitch, he believes, runs something like this: forget being compared to Lincoln. If Trump finishes the Iran war for Israel, he will be compared not to Abraham Lincoln but to the biblical Abraham. He will be the leader who stopped the existential threat to the Jewish state. He will go down as a hero of all history.

Horton noted that Trump’s family has taken money from interests aligned with Israel, including significant donations from Miriam Adelson, and that those donations came “with certain assurances.” But blackmail or bribery, in Horton’s reading, may be less important than simple ego. Trump is uniquely susceptible to flattery, and Netanyahu knows it.

Where Is Israel Headed: Carpet-Bombing, Demographics, and Collapse

On Israel’s trajectory, Horton was sobering. He sees little chance of regime change in Iran from the Israeli side, but a real chance that Israel will, in coming years, escalate against the West Bank in ways comparable to what it has already done in Gaza. “I’m afraid they could just start carpet-bombing the West Bank,” he said, “and just be like, yeah dude, we said greater Israel, didn’t we. We told you Iran, didn’t we.”

The internal Israeli demographic picture is grim by Israeli design. Horton cited the work of Arnon Soffer, the Tel Aviv University demographer who advised Ariel Sharon on the 2005 Gaza disengagement. The disengagement was framed by some as a peace gesture. Soffer described it more bluntly as a way to ensure Israel’s Jewish demographic majority by removing 1.4 million Palestinians from the population count without granting them sovereignty.

What Americans Can Actually Do

I closed by asking Horton what ordinary Americans should do. His answer was civil disobedience, business boycotts, and personal refusal to participate.

“I’m for completely abandoning Israel 100 percent,” he said. “All aid, all military aid, all vetoes in the UN Security Council on their behalf, and all of that. I would never buy anything knowingly that came from Israel, no matter what.”

The boycott, in Horton’s view, is not only about depriving Israel of money. It is about starting conversations. Someone seeing you boycott Israel is forced to ask why, and that opens the door to actually explaining what is happening. “It’s a great conversation starter,” he said.
